Foreclosures, an unfortunate reality of our real estate market, can be a good source of opportunities for bargain hunting. Most foreclosures are from mortgage defaults, and the homes are often referred to as bank- or real estate-owned properties.

Note, these are not short sales, where the owner cannot sell the property without third party (usually the lender) approval. You can make an offer and expect an answer within a few days in most cases.
